OBS

Prior to the armistice, in October 1950, the United Nations General Assembly established the United Nations Commission for the Unification and Rehabilitation of Korea (UNCURK) consisting of seven Member States to represent the United Nations in bringing about the establishment of a unified, independent and democratic government of Korea. In February 1951, the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA) came into operation to help the Republic of Korea and its people toward the restoration of their war-wrecked economy. These agencies ceased to exist in 1973 and 1958, respectively. UNDP started its programme in Korea in 1963 as an offshoot of earlier UN operations, i.e., United Nations Technical Assistance Board and United Nations Special Fund.
